Privacy
Privacy, in plain words
Quietleaf is built so your documents never leave your device. Here is exactly what happens to your files, what the site counts, and how you can check all of it yourself.
What happens to your files
In short: nothing leaves your device.
- When you add a file, your browser reads it into this tab's memory. It isn't uploaded, because the site has no way to receive files at all.
- Opening, merging, splitting, rotating and converting all run on your own device, using open-source engines that are part of the site itself.
- Finished files go from memory straight to your downloads folder.
- If a PDF needs a password, you type it into a box on this page. It's checked by your browser and never sent anywhere.
- Closing the tab, reloading it or pressing Clear all erases your files from memory. Nothing is saved for later.
What is counted
The published site uses the cookie-free visitor statistics built into Modulify, the platform that hosts it. They count page visits: which page was opened, the site that linked to it, the country, and the kind of browser and device. They set no cookies and never see your files, their names, or anything you type.
Like any website, the server that delivers these pages receives standard connection details, such as your IP address, when your browser loads them. It never receives your documents.
There are no advertising trackers, no social media pixels and no third-party font or script services.
What stays on your device
Nothing, once you close the tab. Quietleaf doesn't store your files, your passwords or your settings in your browser. Your downloads are the only thing that remains, saved where you chose.
Verify it yourself
Privacy you can check beats privacy you have to trust. This works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a computer.
- 1Open the Network panelPress F12 (or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac) to open your browser's developer tools, then choose the Network tab. Every connection the page makes appears there.
- 2Use a tool as normalClear the list, then add a PDF, rearrange some pages and download the result.
- 3Read the listYou'll see the site's own code, fonts and image decoders loading from this website, plus the anonymous visit counter. You won't see a single request carrying your document, and its size never shows up as data sent.
Safari tip: turn on Show features for web developers in Safari Settings, under Advanced, to get the developer tools.
