How it stays private
There is no upload step, because there is nowhere to upload to.
Most online PDF tools send your document to their servers, process it there, and send it back. Quietleaf skips the round trip entirely. The website gives your browser the tools, and your browser does the rest.
- Step 1Your browser opens the fileWhen you drop a PDF, it is read straight into this tab, the same way your browser shows a photo from your computer.
- Step 2Your device does the workMerging, splitting, rotating and converting all run on your own processor, using open-source engines that ship with the site.
- Step 3You save the resultThe finished file goes from memory to your downloads folder. When you close the tab, everything is forgotten.
The difference
Same everyday tools, without handing over your documents
Contracts, payslips, medical letters and ID scans deserve better than a stranger's server. With Quietleaf they never reach one.
| Feature | Typical online tools | Quietleaf |
|---|---|---|
| Your file is uploaded | Yes, to a remote server | Never |
| Copies kept after you finish | Often, for hours or longer | None. Nothing ever left your device |
| Account or email required | Often, for anything useful | Never |
| Safe for confidential documents | Depends on their servers | Yes, by design |
| Waiting for uploads and downloads | Every time | No transfer at all |
Don't take our word for it
Privacy you can check beats privacy you have to trust. It takes about a minute to see for yourself that your files stay put.
See the full guide- 1Open your browser's developer tools and switch to the Network tab.
- 2Merge or split a PDF here as usual.
- 3Look through the list: you'll find the site's own code and fonts, and never your document.
Questions
Good questions to ask any PDF tool
Here are our answers, in plain words.
Read how privacy worksIs Quietleaf really private?
Yes. Your browser opens your files and does all the work on your own device. There's no upload step and no server that receives documents, so there's nothing for anyone to see, keep or lose.
Do I need to install anything or sign up?
No. Quietleaf runs in any recent browser. There's no account, no email address and nothing to install.
What happens to my files when I close the tab?
They're gone. Files are held in the tab's memory only while you work. Closing the tab, or pressing Clear all, removes them completely.
Can I use it for confidential documents?
That's exactly what it's built for. Contracts, medical letters, bank statements and ID scans stay on your device from start to finish, so a server breach elsewhere can never expose them.
Is there a file size limit?
There's no fixed limit. Very large documents are bounded only by your device's memory, and most computers comfortably handle files with hundreds of pages.
Which browsers work?
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, including Safari on iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or newer.
Your documents. Your device. Nobody else.
Start with a single PDF or a whole stack. It's ready the moment the page loads.
